Summer Camps

Horsemanship Day Camps --A summertime tradition!!

For over 15 years, each summer F.E.C. in conjunction with the NC Cooperative Extension Service of Alexander County offer the highly popular Horsemanship Day Camps.  These camps are open to ALL youth 9 years old and up and of all levels (no previous experience required).  Riders are grouped by level.  In addition to riding instruction students also participate in stable management, crafts, and workbook activities.  The camp is for one week, Monday to Friday, and held in the mornings (8:15am- 12:15pm).  Campers may attend multiple sessions and will build on the skills of the previous session.  Riders may choose to attend any week or combination of weeks.  Space is limited to 21 campers each week. $90 per session

Survivor camp -- A weekend camp where riders and horses camped in the woods, searched for food (previously hidden), completed group tasks and individual challenges.  Campers participated in vote-offs where campers were removed from the competition to be the Ultimate survivor and claim a special prize..

Adult camp -- A weekend camp that has been hugely popular with the different focuses and offerings each time.  Topics have included gymnastic jumping, dressage, trailer loading,  hoof care, conformation,  Tai Chi, massage therapy for horses and lots more.
German Exchange camp --   2004 saw 8 teenagers from Germany travel to Hickory to attend 2 special weeks of horse camp at F.E.C.  These girls lived with host families (of F.E.C. Students). They spent their days learning horsemanship skills, competed at a hunter horse show, and afternoons/evenings were a chance to experience American culture (bowling, movies, swimming in Lake Hickory, visit to the mall, the mountains).  A very unique and exciting experience for all involved.
