About the equestrian club:

The LRU Equestrian Club is a recognized club at Lenoir-Rhyne University. It is composed of undergraduate students who have an interest in horses.

The purpose of the club is to:

-Provide a forum for the exchange of information about equine species, their characteristics, and care.
-Sponsor the Intercollegiate Riding Team in its competitive riding schedule during the academic school year.
-Allow interested students to organize, participate in or observe equine related activities such as horse shows and clinics.
-Other activities the Equestrian Club participates in include guest speakers and clinics, community service, and fund raising events and schooling level competitions.
 

 

Riding Opportunities At Lenoir-Rhyne University

Lenoir-Rhyne University offers Hunt Seat, Dressage, and Western Horsemanship classes from beginning levels through advanced for course credit. These are held at Foothills Equestrian Center which is located 9 miles from campus in Bethlehem, NC. Foothills also hosts the competing Intercollegiate Dressage Team and regional intercollegiate dressage shows. Foothills has dozens of horses available for practice riding and lessons. Lessons and classes are offered year round in their indoor riding facility at all levels for dressage, hunt seat and western riders.

Competition:

In order to compete on our Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Hunt Seat or Western teams, or on our Intercollegiate Dressage Association (IDA) team a student must be a full time undergraduate, an LRU Equestrian club member in good standing, and must join the national IDA or IHSA organization. Riders must be actively riding on a regular basis with the coach or coaching staff. Students DO NOT need to own a horse or tack. Riders must furnish only their own personal show attire, helmet, boots, etc. The team travels to host schools and competes on well trained, high quality horses furnished by the hosting schools. Teams consists of riders at all levels from walk trot through advanced in all disciplines.

Team members are also eligible for discounts in practice riding, working student positions, and with coach approval, may use Foothills owned horses in open competitions.
